Sub Groups of the Bristol Domestic Abuse Forum

The main aim of the multi-agency strategy on domestic abuse is the reduction of domestic abuse and repeat victimisation through prevention, provision and protection and justice.

Sub groups were set up to work on the priorities for actions detailed in the strategy. Members of the sub groups include people from the legal professions, the police, social services, health, education, the city council and the voluntary sector.

Services – The work of the services sub group includes the development of a crisis response service, looking into specialist provisions for example for women with no recourse to public funds, services for victims with complex needs and services for children.
Perpetrators – The perpetrators sub group is developing work on perpetrator programmes, perpetrator profiling and challenging abusive behaviour.
Communications– The communications sub group looks at publicity methods, the development and promotion of printed and electronic information and campaigning.
Training – The training sub group investigates multi agency training needs and provision as well as awareness raising in organisations throughout Bristol.
Education – The education sub group aims to change and improve attitudes amongst young people and has developed an education pack, “Spiralling”, for use in Bristol schools.
Protection & Justice– The protection and justice sub group aims to evaluate domestic abuse prosecutions, make performance information on domestic abuse cases available to BDAF and identify areas for improvement, review support services for victims and look into the possibility of a dedicated domestic violence court in Bristol.
